2009 League Opener

Everyone is looking forward to getting started after the prolonged winter season that broke snow, rain and fog records and was just darned right cold. It has finally warmed up and our teams are ready to hit the fields for games starting April 6th, 2009. Our fastpitch league is in good shape with many of our athletes returning to play and we have had an excellent recruitment of younger players in our T-ball, Mite and Mini-mite divisions.  These young players are our future league stars.

The best part about starting a new season is you get to start over meeting new friends, coaches, umpires, team managers and the many volunteers who help make it possible to organize the teams and schedules and also to get everthing prepared. With a new season there is always a few wrinkles to iron out, however we all have to understand that as hard as we try, there is always some unforseen circumstances.  We are asking our coaches to establish a Team Manager who we can contact in order to provide information regarding carwashes, jersey numbers, clinic registration, raffles, etc. and so they can concentrate on coaching.

We appreciate that the District of Sechelt has installed washroom facilities at Kinnikinnick Park and has been busy getting the fields in good shape for softball now that the soccer season has ended. We have added some new equipment in the equipment bags and we ask that coaches ensure that their players not hit rocks with the bats and draw warm-up circles. Also, that they take the time to dry out the equipment to avoid moulding. If you are missing anything please contatct equipment manager Al Phillips at 740-2931. The pitching machine is stored at Kinnikinnick and can be signed out in advance for practises.

We are busy trying to get all of our schedules up on our website and we are waiting for our Squirt Division to finalize the nights they will be playing. Our Board meets regulary throughout the season and any requests can be made in writing via email to: if you have any questions or concerns.

The Sechelt Minor Softball Association wants to thank all of the coaches, umpires, directors, parents, businesses and sponsors who once again have stepped up to the plate to assist our league. Without the community support for the teams and the SFU Clinic April 24, 25 and 26th, 2009 we could not maintain the reduced costs. We thank you all...

Lastly, the SMSA Board want to wish all of the teams good luck and have a safe fastpitch season.
