The Softball Clinic covers the basics, including pitching, hitting, bunting, throwing, catching, fielding, base running and sliding. The Sechelt Minor Softball Board Members and SFU Head Coach Mike Renney,  organize the clinic. Mike brings with him with his varsity-student athletes from the SFU Clan Women´s team for instruction. Introduction for ages 10 and under
This is the first year that we are going to provide a free 3 hour introductory session for ages 10 and under on the first day of the softball clinic April 24th, from 6-9 PM.

Through the hard work of the SMSA together with community organizations and business sponsors, we are able to offer this clinic at an exceptionally low cost to our youth on the entire Sunshine Coast

Pitching for ages 11-18
The pitchers learn drills on how to properly grip the ball, wrist snap, pitching stance, arm action, stride, check point, release and follow-through. The breakdown of the mechanics is very well taught and the advanced pitchers are taught the backdoor change-up, fastball, drop ball, riser, screwball, and curve. The night ends with a demonstration from one of the SFU Pitchers throwing some heat. April  24th, from 6-9 PM

General Skills for ages 11-18
The participants are lead through warm-up drills before learning various drills to teach proper techniques and forms for batting, bunting, throwing, catching, base running, reaction timing, outfield throws to the infield, and positional play. The participants get their skills tested for hitting, throwing and running.  April 25 and 26th, from 9 AM - 3 PM.

The clinic is a lot of fun for our young athletes and there are some fun games that create a lot of laughter. You don´t necessarily want to be the one wondering if you were getting a hard or soft boiled egg broken over your head, or running around the field saying "we are Canada, quack..quack...quack" and flapping your arms or squirming like a worm because you lost a throwing relay. Nevertheless, everyone is a good sport and the Clan Women instructors are sometimes the ones “quacking”.
