2007 SFU Clinic - Huge Success

Sechelt Minor Softball SFU Clinic
Sechelt Minor Softball SFU Clinic
The 2007 Sechelt Minor Softball SFU Fastpitch Clinic was a huge success. We had an excellent turnout of young baseball players from the entire Sunshine Coast who attended the 3 day clinic. The clinic was put on by Simon Fraser University Coach Mike Renney and his fastpitch team. Mike Renney has been involved as a coach with Canada´s national women´s team since 1991. In 13 years with Team Canada, Mike has coached at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Championships, 1995 and 2003 Pan American Games and the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic games.

Over his 12-year career at SFU, Coach Renney has guided the Clan to ten national championship appearances. Winning NAIA titles in 1999, 2003, and 2005, SFU has finished second twice at the National Championships; in 2001 and 2004 and third twice; in 2000 and 2002. The 2003 Championship team set program records for losses in a season (4), winning streak (31) and homeruns (36). The SFU Clan 2007 Region I Championships take place at Softball City in Surrey, B.C., from May 10-11. SFU´s first game at Regionals will take place at 9:30 am on May 10 and we wish them good luck!

Our young atheletes learned pitching and general skills from some of the highest caliber fastpitch  players in North America. The clinic was open to all children ages 11-18 on the entire Sunshine Coast. The Executive of Sechelt Minor Softball Association want to thank the businesses of the Sunshine Coast for stepping up to the plate and helping to sponsor this event.  Your generous donations kept the cost very affordable for our young athletes and we want to thank you for making this possible. We also want to thank Kinnikinnick Elementary for allowing us to use their gym for the coaching clinic and the District of Sechelt for the use of Hackett Park.
